“The Secret History of Mummies: The Golden Mummy” is a documentary co-produced by TVE and Story Productions that shows the most unknown and surprising history of the mummies of ancient Egypt. It is based on real research. Three Egyptian mummies and the world’s best-preserved Guanche mummy will be analysed with a state-of-the-art scanner.
In the early hours of June 5-6, 2016, the four mummies from the National Archaeological Museum of Spain were taken to the Quirón Salud Hospital in Madrid to be analysed with a state-of-the-art scanner. During the study the doctors found a secret that had remained hidden for more than 2000 years: 25 plates placed under the bandages of Nespamedu.
The “golden mummy” raised dozens of questions about the identity of this mummy and his life in the land of the pharaohs. Thus began one of the most fascinating historical research of recent years. A journey from Spain to Ancient Egypt that would take archaeologists from Saqqara to the necropolis of Guiza to try to unravel all the mysteries of the enigmatic “Golden Mummy”.
The investigation was followed for more than a year and a half by the cameras of RTVE and Story Producciones. The result is this 55-minute documentary.
Thanks to the results obtained it is reconstructed how life was in ancient Egypt. And it is carried out from a totally new perspective: the one that comes from the modern techniques of medicine.
